It was fun to learn today that U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., is proposing a $3,500 tax deduction for “qualified pet care expenses.” This legislation (H.R. 3501), titled the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years Act (aka HAPPY Act).
I’m all for it. I’m also relishing the idea that a Republican is proposing a somewhat frivolous tax deduction. I get it… this is an inspired idea for those of us who have pets but not children. The $3,500 probably won’t be much of a stimulus — that’s the Congressman’s justification.
Anyway, I think my wallet and my precious Bubbah Jones are worth it. Head on over to the ASCPA site now and send a letter to your Congressional delegation to get this tacked on to the Health Care Bill or whatever else will make it through to a vote.
