First and foremost, we’re going HUGE with making the 2012 show the most social ever. Big deal, you say? Social is growing, so our use of social should too? No argument from me, but it’s all in how we’re getting social.
There’s been nothing short of groundbreaking work done by many, many folks all over EMC putting social at the center of how we engage with the EMC World audience. It’s our intent that NONE of this stays in Vegas!
It’s funny, though, that I can count these efforts in 8′s. Hmm… roulette or craps?
1 − Playbooks. First up… toward the start of EMC’s social journey we created a “Social Media Activation Kit” to help business units organize efforts around social. With these kits, we’re able to concisely package messaging, sample tweets, official hashtags, go-to influencers, target blogs, and so forth. In essence, it’s a playbook to do social around any event.
This year, we have 8 of these kits for EMC World. Eight. Ocho. Each representing social action from each of our major product divisions and two highlighting social around product launches during EMC World.
2 − We love our bloggers. EMC took social to levels unknown prepping for EMC World. Instead of the customary blogger briefing call to tune them in to the cool goings-on at EMC World, we posted eight briefing decks to our internal community for the bloggers to review. And each of these decks contained fully all the juicy details the press would love to scoop. Each (embargoed) briefing deck had an assigned time where the bloggers would get on a WebEx with each respective subject matter expert to go over any questions. We’re making a coordinated effort between blogs and traditional PR. It’s awesome.
3 − We REALLY love our bloggers. It wouldn’t be EMC World without our celebrated Blogger’s Lounge. Heck, we got the best caffeine anywhere on the Vegas Strip! The Blogger’s Lounge is bigger than ever, with a 50% bump in registration still days before the show floor opens, roughly evenly split between partner and employee experts. But, wait, there’s more! The awesome folks behind SiliconAngle’s TheCube will be in the house with nonstop live webcasts with industry experts and EMC thought-leaders.
4 − Caffeine ain’t the only buzz. Our own EMC Community Network is hosting over 40, oh yeah, FORTY, live interactive webcasts during EMC World. These “Buzz Talks” will feature customers, EMC thought-leaders and execs with exclusive content all accessible to the world through live video and chat Q&As.
5 − Social is BIG (data). We’ve heard this one before, but who’s actually walked the walk? This guy. Well, this team, actually. ANOTHER first for EMC… we’re launching a social command center at EMC World. But this ain’t just going to be your daddy’s monitoring station. We’ll have the customary plasma TVs displaying the fun tweets and cool photos from attendees, but we’ll also have plasmas rocking the big data scene with LIVE visualizations and some analysis of real-time social content. We’ll see the hot spots and trends and who’s talking about what. Did I mention it’ll be public? On the showfloor. In multiple locations. On, and on the jumbotron, too! We ain’t messin’ around.
6 − It’s our mission to be social. Yeah, a bit cheesy. But we’re hitting a number of firsts at EMC World with our RAMP program. EMC is the first to launch a gamification program at a major industry event. EMC is the first to integrate in-person badge scans. EMC is the first to launch a community-based gamification program rewarding existing community members with legacy point data. Oh, and we don’t actually call it gamification ;-) And EMC World is just the beginning.
And that’s all just from the EMC Social Team!
There are untold more Instagram contests, scavenger hunts, hashtags, videos, giveaways, you name it from other EMCers, our customers, partners and sponsors.
Watch #EMCworld next week for all the action!
