Online Journalism

Offered through UMassOnline periodically through the year, my online journalism course was geared both to journalism students and other professionals. The course covered the skills necessary to be a driving force in the then emerging social media world. Students explored online news through social media, writing for the web, and through the semiotics of information design.

This course was an elective for the Information Technology minor as well as a core component of UMass Amherst’s Online Certificate of Journalism which was recognized in 2006 as a Program of Excellence by the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).

Samples of student work and an archive of class chats on the former NetJourno.com can be found via the Internet Archive.
